Here’s something nice from Resident Advisor – a soundtrack to a movie that’s not been made. It’s the best one from RA in a while. More like this please chaps.
more goodness
Here’s the second remix from the 2 Bears that I’ve liked a lot this week. Heard this version of Santogold in this mix from Ahadadream on Digital Pirate Material, which is also worth a listen.
it’s not new, but I like it
Commix are one of my favourite artists. They’ve created some gorgeous drum and bass as well as dabbling in house and techno. I love their attention to detail and the importance they place on melody in their music. This week they’ve released Dusted. It’s not new, but a selection of their unreleased material from the 2000s. It’s good. Listen up…
tune for february
I first heard Oblique by Sabre, Stray and Halogenix a couple of months ago. It’s a huge vocal drum and bass track. The label must realise this as it has been hard to find even a low quality rip on youtube. But it’s finally due for release this month. The release will also feature this lush version by Synkro (which I may even prefer to the original) that he opens his brand new RA podcast with…
mr wilson
Spent a while yesterday listening to a recent mix from Greg Wilson. It’s a bit of a slower tempo than most of the music I listen to, but it suited my mood. And it features a lot of his own edits (I think it might all of been his edits actually) which are really special. He respects the originals, just adding a little bit more bass and beats, stretching them out to suit the dancefloor. One I’d not heard for a while which gave me a smile was his edit of Prisencolinensinainciusol by Adriano Celentano, a most odd record…
love this

I first heard Blacksmif’s music last summer when his tune Borrowed and Blue popped up in my Soundcloud feed. I liked it a lot. At the end of last year he put together a mixtape for Cloak & Dagger. I also like this a lot. He’s included quite a few of his own tunes, soon to be released, which are his own take on dubstep, garage and bass. There’s loads of tension and soul in this mix. I’m looking forward to hearing more from this talented producer in 2012.
obsessed
I raved about the SBTRKT essential mix last year, but I’m not sure it’s quite as good as Pearson Sound’s from the end of December. This is just a stunning mix. I’ve been listening to it on repeat over Christmas and into the new year. It’s got a bit of everything and it sounds totally fresh. If you’ve not heard it, listen up…
Pearson Sound BBC Essential Mix (03-12-2011) by PearsonSound
warming up
Here’s a nice warm disco track to ease into the start of what is a very cold week. Not like much else I’ve been listening to lately. Perhaps I ought to be taking down the tempo more often…
